My Daddy Feeding the Chickens

This is my Daddy.  He is feeding the chickens.  We have seven chickens. They're a lot bigger now.  They are 3 months old.  They will lay eggs in three more months.

Our chicken's names are Butternut, Clementine, Cricket, Zinnia, Sweet, Noodle, and Blossom.

Do you have any chickens?  Have you ever wanted to have chickens?

  1. Hello Lucas,
We ordered 25 chickens from MacMurray Hatchery in Iowa. They shipped them in the mail within an hour of the chicks hatching, because they don't need food and water for 3 days after hatching. They can eat it, but since the last thing they do is eat their yoke before they hatch they can survive for three days without food or water. When the chicks arrived they had also given us a free chick so we had 26 chicks. We found homes for all but 9 of the hens.

We loved having chickens for pets and we named them all. Ours were all white so it was harder to tell them apart so we put various colors of zip ties on their legs. We would also take them for walks with a leash attached to the zip ties on their legs. They would walk along with us and eat the grass. If we were gardening we would stake them out in the garden and when we saw a bug or bad worm we would point and call them over and they would gobble it up for us. They were great gardening buddies. The ones that came out the most on their leash would come if you called their name. We did learn that they don't do well if you take them on a trampoline, no matter how bored they look. ;)

Have fun with your chickens! They are wonderful pets. --Sandy
